One coldmorning in April, Caitlyn’s alarm went off, indicating that it was time to get up and get ready for a morning track practice. It was a Friday run. Caitlyn got changed, did her hair, and put on her shoes, then off to track practice she went. Little did Caitlyn know, this track practice was going to be one that she would never forget.
Caitlyn arrived at the school and started stretching. Not long after, her friends Kalea and Justyce arrived at the school and started to stretch with her. The two coaches, Mrs. Lukes and Mr. Lancaster, came out and told them what they were going to do that day.
“Today, you will run outside, through the door onto the sidewalk, then you will go on the grass and run down the hill, to the stop sign, and up again until you come back to where you started.” said Mr. Lancaster.
Out they all went, one by one, and started the morning run. Caitlyn and Kalea ran ahead of everyone together. The cold morning air rushed past them as if eager to get somewhere. Together, they ran on the small dirt track, then they ran in the grass, and down the big hill. They were having fun, talking and laughing as they ran. Finally, they reached the gravel up by the track. It was still dark outside, and there weren't many cars on the road. Caitlyn and Kalea looked for vehicles, and as they were already halfway through one of the entrances, a truck started turning into the entrance when Kalea and Caitlyn were still in the middle of it..
Caitlyn looked at Kalea and yelled, “Kalea!”Kalea yelled back, “Caitlyn, run faster!” They sprinted as fast as they possibly could back to the school. They reached the school, gasping, and stopped.“We almost died!” Caitlyn said.“I can’t believe what just happened!” Kaleareplied.“I did not see that truck, did you?” Caitlyn asked.“No; I guess we should’ve payed more attention to the road,” Kalea responded.“I guess so,” Caitlyn said. They walked into the school to wait for Justyce and tell her all about what happened. They were two of the few people thatmade it back from the run, so they waited five minutes before Justyce came walking into the school.“Guess what just happened to us?” Kalea said to Justyce.“What?” askedJustyce.“We just almost died!” said Caitlyn.“You should have checked for vehicles,” said Justyce.
The girls started stretching and then they went to pack their stuff and prepare to go home. Caitlyn got in the car and told her mom all about what happened to her and Kalea. Caitlyn’s mom shook her head and told her to be more careful and always watch out for cars. So, from that day forward, Caitlyn always looks both ways before running, and she will never forget how that one simple track practice almost made her and her friend Kalea die. Luckily, they lived, and now they are both more careful about looking out for cars. Caitlyn learned to be careful and pay attention to her surroundings and everyone around her.Caitlyn WhitakerMs. LehmannEnglish 1-312 March 2019The Morning Track PracticeOne coldmorning in April, Caitlyn’s alarm went off, indicating that it was time to get up and get ready for a morning track practice. Narrative Reflection Questions Answer all questions with complete, grammatically correct sentences. Be specific and thoroughly address each question.
List one thing you've learned from writing this paper that you can apply to other writing assignments. What will that look like? I learned how to use first person writing. It will look like a story told from the characters.
Identify a specific revision you were asked to make and explain why (this can be at any stage of the writing process). How did you revise? What did you learn? I was asked to explain more about the part where the truck was turning while Kalea and I were running.
What are the conventions of a narrative and how did you meet those in this assignment? I made it first person writing. It also told a story and it made my characters and I learn a lesson.
Given more time to work on this assignment, how would you improve it? I would add more detail, and I would explain more of what happened.
What is one thing you're proud of in this paper? I am proud that I finished the paper and I liked being able to write it with first person.
